Chakan MIDC Roads Still Hit by Potholes as Repair Deadline Passes
Pothole repairs in Chakan MIDC remain incomplete even after the August 31 deadline. Around 60% of the identified potholes have been repaired, while the remaining work is pending. With Rs 59 crore sanctioned for the wider road improvement project, authorities are under pressure to complete repairs and address Chakan’s long-term traffic and infrastructure needs.
Pune: Road repairs in the Chakan industrial belt remain incomplete despite the administration’s August 31 deadline, with around 40% of the identified potholes still awaiting repairs. The delay has renewed concerns over road safety and traffic management in one of Pune’s busiest industrial corridors.
The Talegaon-Chakan-Shikrapur route handles heavy daily traffic, including thousands of workers, two-wheelers, trucks and other commercial vehicles. During the monsoon, several stretches have deteriorated further, with rainwater filling potholes and making them difficult for motorists to spot. The damaged roads have also contributed to slower traffic movement and congestion during peak hours.
The state government has sanctioned around Rs 59 crore for improvement work along the 54-km road corridor. Work orders were issued earlier this year, but progress has been affected by issues including utility shifting and the availability of construction materials.
Authorities had set August 31 as the deadline for completing urgent pothole repairs in the Chakan industrial area. While roughly 60% of the potholes have reportedly been repaired, a significant portion of the work remains unfinished even after the deadline.
The road condition had also come under scrutiny during visits by senior state officials, following which emergency repairs were undertaken at several locations. However, the continuing deterioration at some stretches has highlighted the need for durable roadwork rather than repeated temporary patching.
Apart from pothole repairs, authorities are also looking at longer-term measures to address Chakan’s infrastructure and traffic problems. Plans for widening parts of the Talegaon-Chakan-Shikrapur corridor are expected to improve road capacity and help manage the growing movement of industrial and freight traffic.
With the industrial belt continuing to expand, workers, transport operators and businesses are now waiting for the remaining repair work to be completed. The immediate challenge for the administration is to finish the pending repairs while ensuring that the upgraded stretches can withstand the heavy traffic and monsoon conditions.
