One Killed, Four Injured in Mumbai–Pune Expressway Missing Link Tunnel Crash

A man was killed and several others were injured after a Toyota Fortuner collided with an Eicher goods vehicle inside the Missing Link tunnel on the Mumbai–Pune Expressway in the early hours of August 7. Emergency teams responded promptly, and police are investigating the cause of the crash.

Pune: A fatal road accident occurred in the Missing Link tunnel on the Mumbai–Pune Expressway in the early hours of Friday, August 7, leaving one person dead and several others injured.

According to preliminary information, Tushar Bhumkar, a resident of Wakad, was travelling towards Mumbai in a Toyota Fortuner when the SUV reportedly rammed into the rear of an Eicher goods carrier at around 1:20 am. The impact of the collision was so severe that both vehicles overturned inside the tunnel.

Tushar Bhumkar died on the spot due to the impact of the crash. Four other occupants travelling in the Fortuner sustained minor injuries, while the people travelling in the Eicher vehicle also suffered minor injuries.

Following the accident, teams from the Highway Safety Patrol and an MSRDC ambulance rushed to the scene. The injured were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

Although the accident created panic for a brief period, traffic on the Mumbai–Pune Expressway continued to move normally, and no major congestion was reported.

Police have registered the case and launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. Further details are awaited.
