Teen Schoolgirl Dies After Container Hits Two-Wheeler in Pune

Pune: A 16-year-old schoolgirl lost her life in a serious road accident on Pune’s Katraj-Kondhwa Road on Tuesday afternoon after the two-wheeler she was travelling on with her father and sister was struck by a container truck.

The accident occurred at around 1 pm near Kapilamrut Dairy, within the jurisdiction of Bharati Vidyapeeth police station. According to the police, the family was travelling towards the area when the two-wheeler was attempting to take a U-turn. At the same time, a container travelling from Katraj towards Kondhwa collided with the two-wheeler.

The impact left the teenager critically injured. She was rushed to Bharati Hospital for treatment, but succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment, according to police-based reports. Her father and sister also sustained injuries in the crash. Reports indicate that the sister suffered a serious leg injury and was receiving medical treatment.

The accident took place on one of Pune’s busy routes, where a mix of two-wheelers, heavy vehicles and other traffic frequently uses the road. The circumstances surrounding the collision are now being examined by the Bharati Vidyapeeth police.

Police have taken the container and its driver into custody following the accident. A case is being registered and further investigation is underway to establish the exact sequence of events and determine responsibility for the collision.

The fatal crash has once again drawn attention to safety concerns on the Katraj-Kondhwa route, particularly at points where heavy vehicles and two-wheelers share busy stretches of road. The investigation is expected to establish whether traffic conditions, the U-turn or any other factor contributed to the collision.
