Jharkhand Student Protest Turns Intense; Demonstrators Reach Assembly Area as Police Use Tear Gas, Water Cannons

Student protests in Jharkhand intensified on August 10 as job aspirants breached police barricades and marched towards the State Assembly over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations. Police responded with tear gas, water cannons and lathi-charge. JLKM leader Devendra Nath Mahto, who has been on a nine-day hunger strike and reportedly lost 10.5 kg, joined the protest. The Jharkhand government has agreed to cancel the 14th JPSC Preliminary Examination and backlog exams held in 2023 and 2025, but students continue to demand a CBI probe into alleged JSSC-CGL irregularities. Protest groups are also seeking cancellation of exams linked to TSR Data Processing Private Limited, which they allege is a blacklisted agency. Despite assurances from Chief Minister Hemant Soren, the agitation continues.
