Mumbai PM Modi Event Security Scare: Fake PMO ID, Gun Found; Two Arrested
A security scare was reported in Mumbai ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit for the Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2026. Mumbai Police detained two men after one allegedly presented himself as a Prime Minister's Office (PMO) official using a fake identity card, while a firearm was recovered from his bodyguard.
Two Men Detained During Security Drill
According to Mumbai Police, the two men were detained late Monday night during a security protocol drill at the venue linked to the Prime Minister's scheduled event.
Police noticed a man moving suspiciously at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) in the Bandra-Kurla Complex. He was subsequently detained along with his bodyguard.
The man was identified as 24-year-old Rohan Parekh, who allegedly claimed to be a PMO official. Police checks reportedly found that the identity card he was carrying was fake.
Gun Recovered From Bodyguard
Police said the bodyguard was found carrying a firearm. The weapon was subsequently determined to be licensed, according to the police statement.
Authorities are questioning the two men to determine their motive for entering the area with the firearm and allegedly using a government identity card.
Crime Branch Takes Over Investigation
Mumbai Police have registered an FIR in connection with the incident. The Mumbai Crime Branch has taken over the investigation considering the seriousness of the security breach.
Police are examining how the men gained access to the area and whether anyone else was involved.
The incident prompted heightened security measures ahead of Prime Minister Modi's scheduled visit to Mumbai.
Police Clarify Incident Had No Connection With PM Modi's Visit
Mumbai Police clarified that the incident took place the previous day and had no direct connection with Prime Minister Modi's visit scheduled for Tuesday.
According to the police statement, three men allegedly used a suspicious government identity card and attempted to enter Jio World Plaza in BKC while carrying a firearm. Two people were arrested in connection with the incident.
The investigation is underway to establish the exact circumstances and motive behind the attempted entry.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2026 in Mumbai.
The four-day event is being held under the theme "Potential to Impact: Agentic AI, Tokenisation, Quantum - Trusted, Connected, Global Systems for Inclusive Finance."
The security incident comes at a time when elaborate security arrangements are in place for the Prime Minister's programme.
